Urban Sport #27 Bird Chasing

Sat Oct 17, 2009, 4:53 PM

In large and well touristed cities; various scavenger birds have embraced humans as an excellent source of food, following, swarming, swooping and generally pissing the humans off. Now it is our turn to strike back.

Bird Chasing is a low exertion, non-contact, Personal Best based Urban sport for time wasting and people confusing when waiting for various forms of transport or just having a shit day.

Location: Parks, ferry terminals, bus stops, open train stations, shop fronts and well visited tourist attractions

Aim:To pursue various forms of flying vermin (pigeons and seagulls preferably) for a long distance without them taking off.

Rules:
The bird/s must not flap their wings more than three times.
Road crossings count as 2x the distance of the crossing.
Single bird= 1x your the distance with each additional bird being +x0.5 to that original score.
Only one person can be herding the bird/s with additional people only being allowed to wander aimlessly.

Tips & Tricks
If the birds seek shelter near other people; do not look up. Pursue the bird/s as normal so as not attract extra attention.
Hands in pockets make you look suspicious.
So does dancing
Keep your eye on the bird or on the edges of the pack if you are herding more than one.
Unoccupied benches and chairs are your enemy. Enlist the help of strangers to occupy them.

My High Score: 100 meters+1x5 meter road crossing+5 extra seagulls along the crowded Circular Quay Shopfront= 160 meters.

p.s: Dancing actually helps
