French Voltiguers were men that fulfilled all but the height requirement for the Grenadier corps. The acted as scouts, ladder climbers, street fighters and general skirmishers. Oficially they were supposed to be armed with cavalry muskets (like this guy), but most of them used normal infantry muskets.
