G-87 Mythos MCP

Increasing covenant air activity forced the human army to develop an effective long range anti-aircraft vehicle.

Efforts from the American branch of the Marines spawned the 0-96 Mythos. Basically a rail gun on legs this vehicle was unreliable and lacked armour plating and gun rotation. The rail gun on the O-96 launched a shell winch after reaching a predetermined distance exploded in a rather spectacular giant E.M.P blast shorting out nearby electrical systems. This weapon, though effective, could not be used over allied vehicle division as it shorted out their aiming, navigation and communication systems leaving them vulnerable to covenant attacks.

The G-87, originally designed as a mobile command post was seen as a possible mounting for a large anti aircraft weapon. After removing the pelican landing pad and the food storage bay a large turrent was attached to the top of the chassis and the back legs were reinforced to withstand the recoil of the gun.
The turrent allowed for a 45 degree rotation.The gun placed in the turrent was a R-48-A2 siege gun with an enlarged barrel to effectively fit concussion shells. The concussion shells fired from R-48-A2 exploded at a predetermined time flinging the the covenant aircraft away from their positions or at the ground, scattering them and destroying their wings and engines forcing them to crash.
The mobile command post function was retained giving the marines a mobile command and communication centre decreasing their need for unreliable communication relay satellites.
Though having all these advantages, the G-87 still had to stop and recline into a bracing position on its back legs to use its weapon, it also had to rely on protection from ground forces or low flying aircraft.

The G-87 was quickly incorporated into all of the branches of the marines, with the exception of the American branch which stubbornly retained the 0-96 Mythos.
